I just upgraded Drivepool to the latest beta (2.2.0.848).  I am now getting the following error when starting the GUI.

There was a problem running this application :(

Error report file saved to:
  C:\ProgramData\StableBit DrivePool\UI\ErrorReports\ErrorReport_2017_09_17-03_12_57.8.saencryptedreport

The GUI continues to run after I close the error dialog.
I have attached the ErrorReport.  Three separate errors were generated back to back.

missing disk replacement

Hello,

So I had a problem disk in my pool that was giving issues and slowing down the entire server. I didn't have time to remove the disk officially as I needed the server up at full speed for a deadline, so I just took it out of the server physically and replaced with another drive. The removed drive was duplicated files only.

Drivepool gave me the missing disk error, and saw my new drive. I removed the missing disk and added the new drive and drivepool seems very happy actually. It's very snappy now and not giving me any errors.

It was pretty flawless actually.i still have the removed drive untouched sitting on my desk.

My question is:

Should I reconnect the old drive now I have time?

Drivepool has already re duplicated all the missing files it says over night.

Is there a way to verify this is as smooth as it seems and that there are no missing files? I have re measured and re balanced.

Should I just not worry about it and keep it how it is?

To me the duplicated files is taking up more space then it should then before, but maybe this will correct itself?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

So happy to have found DrivePool!

I remember thinking maybe ten years ago (after my first mdadm disaster) that what I really wanted was something that created a union of multiple standard filesystems and presented it as one file system to my desktop OS (which at the time was Linux). My thought was that I would build this in user space using FUSE and some homebrew TCP protocol + various user space clients for different OS:es (hey Covecube, maybe that part is still a good idea?). And then perhaps configurable levels of duplication per directory. (But that seemed complicated and way more work than what I was willing to do for just me to use...)

And now I finally find this solution, already built and polished, for the OS I currently use. And it's only 30 USD. I would probably have to spend at least a week to build a very minimum thing that just worked for me and was super crappy in terms of UX, and probably didn¨t any rebalancing at all. So.. yeah, based on what I have seen so far buying this saves me a lot of money/time. :)

Cheers, you guys have totally made my day.

Windows 10 CU: Windows default app storage on Pool?

Hi

I can run pretty much all my software off the pool, but every time I try to change the default app installation location it errors out (0x801f000f) and does not change.

Is drivepool comptabile with the way MS has built apps installation?  I know I can bring a folder out from a drive in the pool directly but this doesn't help as I'm looking to spread the load across the drives.

Cheers

Chris

Edit: I had the MS Store added too but this appears to be working and downloading at the moment... Will test once Forza 7 demo has finished.

Can Drive Bender and DrivePool coexist on same machine?

I currently have a production Windows 7 system using Drive Bender.  I'm fairly sure the file performance issues I'm having are directly related to that software but I want to confirm this before ordering a DrivePool license.

I will be removing several drives from my Drive Bender pools and adding them to DrivePool.  The two products won't be sharing physical drives.

Are there any known issues with having both packages active on the same computer?

partitioning a pool

This may have already been touched somewhere in here.
I wanted to know if it was possible to create a pool and then partition it in such a way that all partitions display the collective space. The reason for this is minimizing the requirement to direct programs to a folder in the new pool. I coudl use "net use" or "subst" but i just wanted to check if there was any other options.

DrivePool logging errors in Event veiwer

I'm having an issue with my Server 2016 Essentials where the network shares become inaccessible over the network but rdp still works in the remote session if I navigate to This PC I can see all drives and access the pool if I go to the network and try to access the network even through the server itself it is inaccessible. Now while I'm don't know what the cause is while searching in event viewer I noticed I was getting a lot of errors from DP in the logs there seemed to only be error reports for today but Event Viewer listed them on other dates I've included an attachment of the error logs I'm curious what they mean and what my issue is.Attached File  DrivePoolErrors.zip   77.54KB   3 downloads

Logitech Media Server can't scan audio files with Japanese characters in filename

Hi, I am running Logitech Media Server 7.9 (http://downloads.slimdevices.com/LogitechMediaServer_v7.9.0/)

Basically, it is a server that streams music to certain Logitech audio devices. It is unable to detect and scan mp3 files with Japanese or Korean characters (for example, 거짓말.mp3) when I put the mp3 file in a Drivepool drive. It can, however, detect the said mp3 file if it is stored on a regular non-pooled drive. It also has no problem detecting mp3 files with regular alphabet characters whether I put them in a regular or a pooled drive.

I have been having this problem for a while. I downloaded the latest beta (852) before posting here to see if it is resolved, but no luck there.

I have included a screenshot below. In the left panel is Windows Explorer where I have encircled the filenames that have Korean characters on them. In the right panel is the Logitech Media Server's interface where you can see that the mp3s with Korean characters are not displayed but those with regular alphabet characters are displayed just fine.

Can't use beta

Just installed the latest beta. GUI is glitched, looks like there is already a pool, but none of the buttons under Manage Pool do anything, the left facing and bottom facing arrow in the bar under the trial banner do nothing, in Disks, it says 2 things, "In order to create a new pool, connect a new disk to the system", and "Adding a disk to a pool doesn't erase or alter the existing files on that disk". I can't get out of this screen. I can't create a new pool, or do anything else but look at this screen and click on buttons that do nothing.

Drive is marked Read Only when a drive is missing from the Pool

When using DrivePool in conjuction with CluodDrive I have a problem when uploading a large amount of data.

I have the following setup.

3x 3tb Drives for Cache for CloudDrive with 500Gb dedicated and the rest expandable.

I am in an EU Datacentre with 1Gb/s internet connectivity

I have a DrivePool with 3 different accounts - 2x Google Drive and 1x Dropbox.

I have another DrivePool for where my downloads go, that consists of space left over from the listed drives above.

When I attempt to copy / move files from the Downloads DrivePool into the CloudDrive DrivePool, one drive always drops off, Randomly, never one in particular.

But then DrivePool will mark the Drive as read only and I can't move media to the new drive.

I would have thought cache would handle this temporary outage, I would also expect that the Local Drive cache should handle the sudden influx of files, and not knock off the CloudDrives. I also would think that DrivePool would still be usable and not mark the drive as read only?

What am I doing wrong? - how do I fix this behaviour?

DrivePool + Google Backup & Sync

Greetings,

I've attempted to search for an answer but so far have been unable to find one.

I was previously using Storage Spaces in Windows 10 to pool my drives and I would back that up to Google Drive via Backup and Sync.

I had a drive failure and which caused me to create my pool from scratch. Since I'd initiated the Storage Spaces, I'd learned of DrivePool and decided to buy it.

Previously, I was able to use Google's Backup and Sync tool to mirror the majority of my files in the storage pool to Google Drive. now I'm continously getting an error on Google Backup & Sync (311CF1CF). It seems to scan the pool, acknowledge the files but when it's type to copy (up or down) it crashes.

Does DrivePool support backing files up to Google Drive?

I'm aware of Cloud Drive, I may use that in the future, but at the moment would prefer the majority of my files to go up directly accessible from the web client/Drive apps. I also like that it integrates well into Google Photos.

Thanks for any insight you can provide.

Bringing disks offline

Hi,

Brief description of my setup.

1x 5bay USB3 connected enclosure

1x External USB3 HDD

Now the issue I'm facing is, whenever I have to swap disks on the 5bay, the enclosure actually disconnects and then re-connects once the drive is removed (or added). This cause DP to think that disks in the 5bay enclosure have gone missing and starts to 'measuring...'.

Is there a way to add disks (or remove) disks from the 5bay enclosure nicely without triggering this behaviour? The sole External USB3 is a 8TB disk and it takes a long time to 'Measure'. The entire pool is used as a backing store for my backup clients. I can afford to take the pool offline but I don't really want to reboot. It's a Windows 10 machine and running the latest beta version.

Win 7 Blue Screen 050 after DrivePool 2.2.0.852

I am running Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit which has been remarkably stable for more than 4 years. I added a new HGST 8tb He drive to replace an HGST 5 tb drive that was making loud noises. I installed DrivePool (I believe the 561 version) at that time (about six months ago). All was quite well until DrivePool app said there was a new version, downloaded it and installed. The next day the computer blue screened with Page Fault in non paged area 0x000000050 error. I rebooted and watched for several days, and found that each time an application tried to access the drivepool using its assigned letter (q:), the blue screen results. It does not happen if I access the same directories using the real disk's letter (k:). This is the only physical drive n the pool at the moment.

If I recall, Drivepool itself installed version.850 when it found the newer version. As part of my own attempt to fix this I installed the .852 version to see if the problem was fixed. It is not.

I have memtested the machine, and double-checked all SATA connections, and believe the bluescreen originates from the newer versions of DrivePool. Please help and let me know what other information you need from me. Thanks!

CrashPlan Real Time File Backup Broken After DrivePool Update

$

I had been running my WHS 2011 with DrivePool 2.2.0.651 for a long time with CrashPlan without any problems. After updating to 2.2.0.852, which required a clean install because of hibernation failures, I have discovered CrashPlan can no longer detect new file creation or changed files in the Pool (it still can on my C: drive). So, the real time file backups are not occurring for anything created or modified in the Pool. The new and changed files are not found until CrashPlan scans the entire Pool at the end of the day.

I know CrashPlan requires NTFS volumes for real time file backup, and my Pool is NTFS.

Is there a reasonable possibility something changed with the update that would cause CrashPlan to have trouble seeing file changes in the Pool? I will also check with CrashPlan to see if there is anything I can troubleshoot.

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi all.

I've been advised to look at this as part of a home server refresh.

Currently I have:

4x3TB

2x6TB

4x2TB

All with data on and these are backed up via a HP P212 to a LTO4 tape autoloader by Backup Exec.

While I have not got the capacity to add another drive, I do have the ability to 'free up' a drive by shifting data around so could I.

Free up a disk.

Create a pool.

Copy data to that pool to free up another.

extend the pool.

Repeat until all drives are within the pool?

Is this possible?

I don't need to protect data over multiple disks due to the LTO but the single disks are becoming hard to manage so ideally with this I can replace the smaller disks with larger ones as I grow data.

Cheers.

Bought DrivePool: Now what?

I have 4 HDD connected and I want to start using with all 4 since the main one is getting full. It is a mix of documents, files, photos, and movies. Documents and photos will be on all four while the rest will be on two.

What is the correct and proper process for?

"Not enough space" when there actually is!

$

When replacing files larger than remaining space on the drive where these files are placed, I get the "Not enough space" message, even if there are plenty of space on the pool. DP should just delete the old files and place the new ones on a different drive instead.

Regards Roger :-)

Limit usage on an individual physical drive?

Say I have several disks in my pool and I want to reserve extra space for "other" data on one or more individual disks.  That's to say, I don't want Disk x to use more than a certain percentage or byte threshold to store pool data.  Is there a way to do this short of splitting the drive into multiple partitions?
