No S.M.A.R.T Data anymore

I had to do a factory reset on my PC. When I reinstalled the Scanner, I'm no longer getting smart data. I downloaded an app called Crystal Disk Info. It displays my smart data.

I read through the forum, downloaded the Direct I/O test app and tried the "Unsafe Direct I/O" setting. That works. I changed the setting in the scanner, restarted the service and I can see the smart data now.

In the I/O test app, I get smart data with either of these settings:

Unsafe Direct I/O

Specific Method: ScsiPassThrough

I only want the smart data because, before my factory reset, I noticed that the scanner would monitor the temperature and stop scanning if it thought the disks were too hot. That seems important?

I want to use this PC for a media server and to backup my NAS. It will also use DrivePool. There won't be any actual people running apps, just backups and streaming videos. So...

1. Bottom line: How "unsafe" is this? If the PC doesn't crash within 24 hours - 3 days, would I be OK using Direct I/O?

2. Should I try some fake backups for a few days (every so many hours). I don't want to install Drive Pool, etc. until I know how unsafe this is. I don't want my DrivePool data corrupted.

3. Does the scanner need to monitor the temperature (and possibly stop scanning)? Is that important? I only have it scan once a month.

Thanks
